Mourinho Returns to Real Madrid, Hails Club's Unmatched Legacy
José Mourinho has expressed his admiration for Real Madrid's rich heritage as he begins his second spell in charge of the Spanish giants.
The Portuguese manager has signed a three-year contract with Los Blancos, returning to the Santiago Bernabéu 13 years after leaving the club. Mourinho replaces Alvaro Arbeloa and arrives with the task of restoring Madrid to domestic success after the club failed to win a major Spanish trophy in each of the last two seasons.
Speaking about his return, Mourinho emphasized that Real Madrid's history and global stature make it unlike any other football institution.
According to Mourinho, the club's greatness extends far beyond its iconic white shirt, pointing instead to its remarkable tradition of success, legendary players, and countless trophies. During his first stint between 2010 and 2013, Mourinho enjoyed considerable success, winning a La Liga title, Copa del Rey, and Supercopa de España while recording 126 victories in 174 matches.
His return comes at a time when reports of dressing-room tensions have surfaced. Midfielders Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni were reportedly involved in a training-ground disagreement, while Kylian Mbappé is said to have had a strained relationship with former coach Alvaro Arbeloa. VinÃcius Júnior has also been linked with disagreements during the previous managerial regime.
Despite recent criticism directed at Mbappé, the French superstar has maintained an impressive scoring record, netting 86 goals in 103 appearances since joining Real Madrid in 2024.
Mourinho, however, refused to judge the situation before working closely with his players. He stressed the importance of observing, listening, and understanding the squad before drawing conclusions. The veteran coach praised Mbappé as a world-class talent and stated that his goal is to help every player improve while strengthening the team as a whole.
