Ghana Goalkeeper Asare: Facing Kane Was Just Part of the Job
Ghana goalkeeper Asare has described his performance against England’s Harry Kane as a normal part of his responsibility on the pitch, insisting that facing top attackers does not bring any extra pressure.
According to Asare, a goalkeeper’s main duty is to make saves and protect the team’s goal, regardless of the quality of the opponent. He explained that every player on the field has a role to play — strikers are expected to score goals, while goalkeepers are expected to stop them.
Asare said that even the best goalkeepers in the world concede goals, and there is no need to view every result emotionally. For him, football is about accepting the challenges of the profession and continuing to perform at the highest level.
“This is normal for me. This is my job and what I am expected to do on the field. Facing Kane is also part of my job — it is nothing unusual. He may score against me, or he may not, but it is all part of football,” Asare said.
During the match, Ghana spent much of the game defending under heavy pressure from England. The team had less possession and focused on maintaining a strong defensive shape while searching for opportunities on counterattacks.
Despite England’s constant attacking moves from both the wings and central areas, Ghana’s defence remained organised. Asare made several important saves throughout the match, helping his team maintain a clean sheet and earn praise for his composed performance.
His display showed the confidence and mentality required of a goalkeeper competing against some of the best attackers in world football.
