Lo Celso Dismisses River Plate Speculation as He Focuses on Argentina's World Cup Campaign
Argentina midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has made it clear that his full attention is on the FIFA World Cup, despite recent reports linking him with a possible move to River Plate.
The Real Betis star delivered an outstanding performance in Argentina's victory over Jordan, earning the Man of the Match award. Lo Celso also marked his FIFA World Cup debut in memorable fashion by scoring a stunning free-kick, helping Argentina finish the group stage with a perfect record and secure a place in the Round of 16.
After the match, Lo Celso was asked about rumors suggesting he could return to Argentina and join River Plate. However, the midfielder dismissed the speculation, insisting that this is not the right time to discuss his future.
"I am very happy at Real Betis and my complete focus is on the FIFA World Cup," Lo Celso said. "Right now, my priority is representing Argentina, and there are still important challenges ahead." The 30-year-old remains under contract with Real Betis until June 2028, making any immediate transfer unlikely.
Lo Celso also spoke about the emotional significance of finally playing in a World Cup. Although he was included in Argentina's squad for the 2018 tournament, he did not feature in a match. He then suffered the disappointment of missing the 2022 World Cup because of injury.
Making his long-awaited World Cup debut and scoring his first goal on football's biggest stage made the occasion even more special.
"It is an incredible feeling," Lo Celso said. "After everything I have been through, scoring in my first World Cup match is unforgettable. It is a moment I will always remember."
With Argentina continuing their quest for another World Cup title, Lo Celso is determined to keep his attention on helping the national team succeed before thinking about any decisions regarding his club future.
